Justin's gone.

I'm - I've got Hydra here.

She

Neither of us is in good shape.

FUCK.
alt_sirius: (Hey!)
All right, there?

Justin, what's this about your potion catching fire? Is this to do with whatever happened last night?

If it's private or personal, I've no wish to pry but if there's anything we ought to know...well, I do hope you'll tell me.

You know we're all rather captive here without any idea what's going on. In the absence of hard facts, there's only speculation to be had. You should know that Sally-Anne's told Remus nothing apart from this training accident story, but.... Look here, are you two in some sort of trouble? Were you caught together, or something?

If you're afraid we'll be cross with you, I assure you, I'll do all I can to help.
alt_sirius: (OhHellNo)
You know, I don't want to pry into their business but something's not adding up.

  • Ron wants to know about transfiguring animagi into other animals and what effect that might have, as a precaution in case Glozeman tries transforming him

  • He also asked about the forced reformation spell, since someone in their class knew it and they weren't already familiar with it (and why didn't Albus teach it to him? That's a question for another day)

  • Private messages among Harry, Ron, Sally-Anne, Justin and Pansy (which could be anything, I admit)

  • Harry asks us about Peter because he's been 'thinking about other animagi'?

  • Sally-Anne asks me (and the other Animagi) about remaining in animal form for 'a really long time' and whether if one did so for sufficiently long periods, if one would turn into that animal

  • And now, after we've been discussing Peter with Harry, he sends them all another Private Message

....

Doesn't Sally-Anne have a pet rat?
alt_sirius: (smoking)
Merlin, what a day.

Justin's asleep. At least, he was going to get ready to sleep, poor sod. The double shot of whiskey he drank while we were talking will probably help, I bet.

I don't blame him. I'm exhausted just from that conversation and I haven't had anything like the fortnight he's had. But when you add our Evening with the Weasleys on top of the rest .... Firewhiskey doesn't even begin to cut it. Still, it gives me some thoughts about the next few radio addresses.

Hope Charlie and Dora are having fun, anyway.

Has the rain stopped? Only it'd be nice if you could close up early tonight.
alt_sirius: (Serious)
You know, this might be the first time I wish I had the ability to send a bona fide Howler.

I hope you're both quite happy with yourselves. Merlin, HOW could you be so foolish? For what? A few months of playing house?

I thought you both had better sense. You'd already managed something I thought almost impossible. You had Rodolphus Lestrange on your side, more or less. Somehow you've managed to charm or wheedle everyone who's found out about your relationship to come down in support, well, it was only a matter of time before you encountered someone who didn't find the two of you so affecting and enchanting.

Justin, do you have any idea what your mother would do to me if you'd got yourself killed?

And then to get caught and know that there was a good chance Horace was blowing the whistle, and not to tell me about it? Not to tell Alice? You do realise how idiotic that was. Yes, we'd have been cross but at least we might have been able to intercede in some way. And think of the position you put everyone else in, if you can't be bothered to worry about your own arses.

I don't know what you were thinking. Either of you.

Above all, I can't believe you'd give Bellatrix any reason to force her power over you - and that's what you've done, you know. You served up your relationship on a platter for her to cut into pieces. You can't afford another mistake and you certainly can't allow yourselves to lose control like that again.

I know you both well enough to expect you're well aware of how massively you've cocked things up. How you've damaged not only your chances to marry properly, if that's what you insist you want, but also your chances to do anything else you'd hoped for the Order, the trust we've placed in you, the responsibility, and in all honesty, the ability to be effective after this setback.

And I know you're the ones who have to live with the consequences of your thoughtless actions. Believe me, I know all about that. Truly, I'm sorry that you'll likely regret this week for a long time to come.

That doesn't alter the fact that this isn't - can't be - a game. You knew what you were doing was a potential risk but you did it anyway. We want you to be willing to undertake risk, but for worthwhile things, not self-indulgence.

Right, then.

Morgana help me for saying this, but part of me still wants to offer you the option to elope and come live at Grimmauld. But you both have to think what you'd be giving up to do it. I recommend against it, at least until you've finished school. Meanwhile ... well, it's not that we don't want you to be happy, but it can't be at the expense of everything we've built. That's too high a price.
alt_sirius: (Dignified)
Right. Well, our Institute members had a swift cuppa here yesterday, then we let them use the Floo to get to Milton Keynes. (The only hard part there was finding an active grate!) From there they flew toward the coordinates Terrie had supplied for the farm.

Harry, Justin, from what you lot said yesterday you didn't hit any trouble, but you got close enough to see that it was fairly well fortified, yeah?

Terrie did reply to my owl, too, and said she's still working on convincing some of the residents that she's on their side. I've told her to go careful. She's got her little boy to think of, and all. She said in her letter that it's slow going but it's going. She's had to stop letting Beth's people pass through, in the interim, too.

So Alice, I think we'd best keep in touch with her, but let her tell us when things there are ripe for an uprising. She did send me a copy of the new identity papers for someone being transferred, as well as the type of badge they let the overseers use, so we might be able to infiltrate sometime in the next month, before they change the forms again, and see for ourselves. Perhaps an appearance by a bonafide rebel will help impel them to act in concert.

Meanwhile, Bill, how are you feeling, mate? Anytime you want to come by, do.
alt_sirius: (Serious)
To be honest, it's not MLE and the Council that worry me.

It's all those members of the Jr Aux who were at the Burrow.

Did you hear them all greet Pomona, Kingsley? Sounded like a primary school class.

I smelled Justin soon as he arrived; tried to get out of sight in a hurry but I can't be sure whether or not he saw me. The problem was that every time I moved away from him, I came near to being spotted by Pansy Parkinson.

And Kingsley, was it me or was Mac staring at the young woman who came with Justin, the one carrying the hamper? Poor girl looked like she hadn't an idea how best to make herself useful. I think she wound up in the kitchen most of the afternoon. Maybe we ought to ask what was so fascinating? Don't know if he'll take that as teasing about his tastes or what.

Alice, you and Frank had gone but you ought to know that Neville and Evelyn both came by Floo, mid-afternoon or so. Then all of them - Pansy, Justin, Hydra, Ron, Sally-Anne, your two - went up to Fred and George's room. Can't be good, whatever that means (though the twins were seen going up and down the stairs from time to time. Nicked a platter of sandwiches on their way back up, too).

Mordred, it's nearly time to go. Look, I know we said we'd let things alone and they can figure it out in their own time but .... I just think that time is coming much sooner than any of us planned.

Order Only

alt_sirius: (Bea)
Hermione: Merlin, I just realized I never asked about last Thursday. Are you all right? Did Harry satisfy Malfoy?

Sorry, I should have asked before now.

By contrast, what I was going to say is that Bea's 10 months old today (see, Dora, I can keep track!).

I think she'll be on to words any day now, though Remus says he reckons she's still a ways off from really knowing what they mean. I dunno: Whenever any of the three of us have been away and come back within line-of-sight, she bounces on her toes, reaches out, smiles and says 'Ma!' or 'Da!' - indiscriminately, to be sure, but she doesn't say it when Kreacher's about, or to any of the patrons.

Beth came by the shop yesterday, as well, ostensibly to have a chat with Dora but really I think to find out if we'd followed her suggestion and applied for a muggleborn servant. Moony talked to her (I was Padfoot, of course) and we think she was pleased. She mentioned bringing some people round this weekend. To check out the operation, was the unmentioned implication.

Speaking of that, we put down that the cellar would be where we'll quarter the person (when, if it all works out as we hope, she'll actually sleep in a room upstairs). I've spent a little time this morning making it look a bit less like the scene of a monthly dog fight - though not anything beyond a meagre pallet, washbasin and an old orange crate for a dressing table.

All of which puts me in mind of Terry. Hermione, what do you hear from him, anything? We've not forgotten him, Merlin knows.

Justin's written to say he's travelling or else he'd be able to accept an invitation from your Ron, Molly and Arthur, to play Quidditch at yours. He's still seeing He's also said they're taking them to a camp but he doesn't believe it'll be the real thing (nor do I). Arthur, Bill, have you heard anything about this?

Well, at any rate, it sounds as if you lot at Hogwarts should have a relaxing holiday, with everyone out of the castle. Might be a good time to do some scouting along the coast?

Oh. And I heard from Terrie Taylor, too. She's had a boy and found another job. Sounds like it's in a private sector farm, still using muggle labourers but at least they're relatively decent to the poor buggers. It's in Bedford but she can bring the little fellow with her. Apparently there's provision for that sort of thing. Anyway, she wanted me to know that she's still interested in helping, if she can. She thought perhaps she might be able to traffic people through, if we needed it.
alt_sirius: (Shocked)
Bugger all. I've been working on this bloody Grim Truth all day and I'm fucking nowhere.

All I've got is, 'What in Merlin's name is WRONG with you all?' and that's no good.

Maybe Mac's right and these posts are useless. It's not like I can give people a blueprint, 'Here's how to throw off the yoke of oppression' - MLE will simply stop them in their tracks.

And I've had another letter from Justin. Hydra Lestrange is going to get that lad killed if he's not careful.

Can you let Dora close up alone? I need a fresh bottle.
alt_sirius: (Okay)
Well, Dora, I suppose I may have to admit that I may be misjudging your cousin Hydra. Or else she's far more insidious than we thought.

I've had an owl from my old student, Justin Finch-Fletchley. He says he's been carefully asking people's opinions about whether I'm really alive or if my post after the Quidditch World Cup was written by an impostor. When he found out that even Hydra Lestrange thinks, possibly, it was real and not a fake, he figured he could chance sending me an owl.

Merlin, he's been saving up a lot to say.

First, I was right: The French government have taken an interest in his mother. Laura's under watch. They still believe our story, that she's a Squib, so no one is expecting her to perform magic. But they made it clear to Justin that his conduct will directly determine whether she's allowed to continue living in their home or whether they're going to seize her property. So he's more than a little worried about that and trying his best to keep up the charade that he was simply born into a family that thought he wouldn't have any magic, rather than one that didn't know magic existed.

Second, he's having some trouble, because of his status, with some of the older boys. Well, we knew that might happen. I warned him he could be in for some hazing. There are two in particular who seem to delight in bullying him. He makes it all sound like it's nothing but he did ask for a few more defensive tips. I'll have to consider how to get those back to him without alerting anyone.

Third. Circe. This is the heart of it all.

He'd just gone on rather a date of sorts with none other than Hydra Lestrange. Dora, he's quite taken with her, I'll have you know. Kissed her. I think it's a first kiss for them both, from what he has to say (though how he'd know about her I couldn't tell you). He makes it all sound very innocent and honestly I can't imagine him behaving anything other than a gentleman, so I believe him about that. What I'm not sure of is that she's all that sweet as he makes her sound. Something about an animal-lover and her pet rabbit and not wanting to take Arithmancy. Well. That part was a little harder to follow. He says she was withdrawn at first but as they got to talking she told him all sorts of things about her mother, how she knows she's a disappointment and how she sometimes does things just because she knows it irritates Bella. Things like not eating meat. She asked him things about living in a country where the muggles are in charge and he told her about films and transportation and clothing and answered some of her questions about lies her mother's told her. She'd taught her that hugging a muggleborn would make her hair fall out!

Well. Anyway, the point is that he clearly fancies her rather a lot. But he's also well aware that he's lying to her about who he is and how much worse it would be for her to actually be dating a muggleborn. (Actually, he's quite pleased about 'defiling' her in Bella's eyes, in those terms, even if it has to be kept a secret. Sort of a vicarious revenge for making him think Bella had actually killed me.) But he does feel a little guilty that he has to deceive Hydra on any level.

Now, the other problem I have and I'm not sure how to tell him, is that he could be the one being deceived. What if Hydra's just drawing him out? I've been worried for him, you know, that he'll give himself away. And we all know what sort of idiots boys are when they're interested in a girl. He might well tell her things he can't cover up or keep consistent later. She could be trying to lull him into a sense of security so that she can report back to Mummy. I want to warn him about that.

But then there's something that worries me even more than his getting close to Hydra. He doesn't say it right out, but I think he's hoping he can learn something about Bella that will help us. I don't want him messing about with that at all. Not only does it put him in terrible danger but it'd put his mother in jeopardy. I don't think he'd do anything deliberately foolish but - he knows Bella's a Legilimens, too. Another reason to go careful.

I shouldn't answer, I know. It's for his own good if I don't send him anything potentially incriminating. But I don't want him running away with the notion that since he's in England, he can act as some sort of spy.

Especially if it's Hydra who's really the spy, and not Justin.
alt_sirius: (Contemplative)
Hermione, if you're going to be near him at all, could you let me know if he seems all right to yoiu? I don't like them bringing him over here one bit. I suppose if they'd had any proof that his mother's not really a Squib or that they knew me at all, they'd be sure to show him a different sort of hospitality than the Malfoys' pilfered castles. Still.

He doesn't sound quite himself, either, at least not in the replies he's giving to people on his introduction post. All that rot about being lucky to be in the Protectorate. I'd love to know what the Ministry's plan is, or what they think they've got in him.

Or what they've told him to do and say while he's here.

I'd love to tell him I'm alive, too, but best not. Not until we know what's going on.
