alt_sirius: (OhHellNo)
Right, what can we give Molly to do tomorrow and for the next few days?

Otherwise I've a feeling Rachel's guilt will feed Molly's reassurance, which will feed Rachel's guilt, &c, so on, ad nauseum.
alt_sirius: (close-up)
I think we're about ready to go. Radhika and Ellen are going to take photographs to establish that Draco and I are working with the good people of Brighton to rebuild their boardwalk.

Merlin, what a massive annoyance, but I admit I'm looking forward, in some ways, to doing a little work with my hands.

Alice, I left something for you in the drawer of your desk. Open only when you're alone. Circe knows I needed one after John's service, and Remus mentioned you were feeling particularly tense, too.

Anyway.

We'll be back by dark, I expect.
alt_sirius: (achy)
The bank has been open for about an hour. Ragnik had told them to wait about that long, as there are usually a few customers who want to rush in right when they unlock for the day. That crowd should be thinning out by now. Draco and Hermione left a few moments ago to watch for their moment.

This is the part where we can't behave as if we're worried, isn't it. While hoping they either get done with it quickly and easily or have time to write and tell us how they're doing.

Being the one out there doing it is much easier. Even if we're sure the goblins won't throw up any roadblocks in their path.

Mordred.
alt_sirius: (Looking)
Well, how bad was it?

You know, if I'd been thinking clearly I could have gone with you as Padfoot, for a little moral support.

Sorry for not thinking of it sooner. I suppose I've been distracted by drafting this Grim Truth Alice wants, trying to come up with ways to tell people about the private messages without making it clear that we have someone on the inside letting us know how long it would be before they start archiving them again.

Anyway, supper's ready if you're feeling like joining us. The 'whole family,' I suppose we might start calling it. Not that Remus, Hermione or I are very hungry after the spread they put on at Moddey. If you don't want to tell Draco how his mother is, you can tell me after Bea goes to bed.

I'm sure Snape wants to hear all about Dolohov's house, though.
alt_sirius: (Bedraggled)
Sweet bloody Mordred.

Snape invited Draco down to the stillroom to help us brew. More like to help him destroy every cauldron we currently have!

Alice, for the love of Merlin, give them something to do. Can they attempt this Ministry thing, with the archives? Or go rescue a baby or steal a Sleeper for experimental potions or SOMETHING?

At this rate I'm ready to send them into New London to break into an apothecary if it'll just keep them OCCUPIED.

Moony, I sent them upstairs, anyway, just to play a game or rearrange the furniture or try to unstick my mother's portrait. I don't care what.
alt_sirius: (half-smiling)
So, what are the odds that we'll go more than ten minutes today without Bea reminding us that she's three?

I think the hardest part so far has been keeping her out of the cake. (To say nothing of the incongruity of Kreacher even making a cake. I've checked it for razor blades or rat poison or anything equally malicious.)

When are we expecting the Moddey contingent? I've fielded about a million questions about Kevin, Keisha and Sara already. Who else did Alice plan to bring? (I can't quite explain so she'll believe me that Rory's not really interested in a party for a three-year-old.)

Maureen is coming, isn't she? Because if there are about to be a dozen children under six here we might need to set up a few more safety spells.
alt_sirius: (Yeesh)
Alice, whomever's flying round Peterhead, send them west.

There's definitely something building up along this ley line.

At least, I don't think it's just the wind. Merlin. My head's buzzing.

I'm going up again but lower this time, see if I can see anything on the ground. Also not as far to fall Don't worry; I'm watching out for MLE.

Dora, Charlie, you two all right? I'll be looking for relatively secluded spot where you can conduct your mission.
alt_sirius: (Default)
How's that student - Montgomery?

And have there been any aftereffects from the memory modifications on her companions?

I'm posting privately mainly not to worry certain types who, er, don't necessarily know what happened yesterday afternoon. Though eventually Alice and Charlie need to be told - I thought there was no sense worrying Molly everyone else, particularly with Hagrid's involvement in saving that girl.
alt_sirius: (Motorcycle)
Alice, Frank: Thank you again. I'll definitely want to go back and see what I can get assembled. The engine and carburetor need significant reconditioning but it'll be much easier to put the spells in place on them before they're fitted into a frame. I thought I saw a few Triumphs and even a Royal Enfield; I'll have to look at the numbers to make sure they're compatible, though. Also see what manuals the place might have.

Anyway, it's brilliant. I'm glad you waited until after the lessons to show me. As it was, I hope Maureen didn't get too tired of Bea. (Oh, and please tell her I appreciate her volunteering to mind the monster, but I might take it personally if she keeps ducking Potions to do it. Perhaps we could ask Florrie to switch off now and then.)

I do think it's good for the young miss, anyway. Seeing other kids, playing. Between that and her earlier bedtimes she might just turn out civilised yet!
alt_sirius: (Okay)
Well, that was ... interesting.

Alice, I do think we should perhaps simply meet Ridley for a summit. Too much back and forth is bound to lead to problems. More than a few.

Anyway, she's not half glad to confirm that Bill's a sympathiser, she clearly fancies him more than just as an office mate, and so does he, though I think neither of them are willing to admit it.

Which means I'd be happier if neither of them were directly involved in negotiating. Particularly given how free she is with her affections. And all those middle-of-the-night private messages, if they mean what I think they meant.

She mentioned that it's 'convenient' for the two of them to converse during the day but in their eagerness to please each other we might find ourselves agreeing to something we can't afford.

We'll have to see what Dora thinks. I think she might be willing to jump from DogStar if given the right motivation. But it might be to our advantage to leave her with one foot in each group, too.
alt_sirius: (Sincere)
Well. A lot happened in the last few minutes.

Stephen McGivern's dead. I'm so sorry. I didn't see the whole thing happen - I can't go into details just now; I'll give you a full report in a while.

As near as we can figure, the spell to protect this area of the camp has affected its magical field and nothing magical works inside it. Including the journals.

I think I managed to gravely injure Corax Mulciber but then his brother drew a bead on me when we fled further into the woods. He put up quite a fight. Nearly got me before I managed to hit him with a wasting curse. Not sure I got him square on, though. But he dropped anyway.

Turner's with me; the others scattered and will make their way back to the Fidelius entry point. Dora was all right the last time I saw her.

Alice, I'm going in to find Frank and figure out what our next move is. And maybe get something for my arm.

We'll write back in an hour or two once we've regrouped.
alt_sirius: (Dignified)
Right. Well, our Institute members had a swift cuppa here yesterday, then we let them use the Floo to get to Milton Keynes. (The only hard part there was finding an active grate!) From there they flew toward the coordinates Terrie had supplied for the farm.

Harry, Justin, from what you lot said yesterday you didn't hit any trouble, but you got close enough to see that it was fairly well fortified, yeah?

Terrie did reply to my owl, too, and said she's still working on convincing some of the residents that she's on their side. I've told her to go careful. She's got her little boy to think of, and all. She said in her letter that it's slow going but it's going. She's had to stop letting Beth's people pass through, in the interim, too.

So Alice, I think we'd best keep in touch with her, but let her tell us when things there are ripe for an uprising. She did send me a copy of the new identity papers for someone being transferred, as well as the type of badge they let the overseers use, so we might be able to infiltrate sometime in the next month, before they change the forms again, and see for ourselves. Perhaps an appearance by a bonafide rebel will help impel them to act in concert.

Meanwhile, Bill, how are you feeling, mate? Anytime you want to come by, do.
alt_sirius: (JC Superstar)
How are you doing, love? Better than Saturday?

They're making good progress, I think. It's a lot to ask over a few days but they're certainly applying themselves.

You've got to be proud of that. And the way Lisa voluntarily reached out to help Susan Bones up when her jelly-legs jinx worked so well. (She was dead surprised, too. We had to remind her that in a real battle, you've got to make sure the opponent stays down!)

Bringing in a few of the Moddey kids was a stroke of genius - just the right amount of unfamiliar competition.

And we're making progress, as well. Maybe not with that Octoboros but then, it seems to have been neutralised by Apparating with it. Has anyone made more progress on it? We should have asked Cecilia about the runes while she was here.

Well, anyway, I just wanted to see if you've stopped beating yourself up about Capper and everything else - whatever else you were beating yourself up about. Not that you're not welcome, any time, for a drink or anything else. And don't worry, your secret's safe with me, Allie: As far as anyone else is concerned you're still unflappable. Well, apart from that little incident with the frog spleens.
alt_sirius: (Youngster)
I'm heading to Minerva's to relieve Frank and Alice. Additional buffer would not go amiss, if you cared to come along.

Been thinking about what you said the other day, the messages between their Neville and the Finnigan lad. D'you suppose it means they're better mates than we realise? Or are you leading somewhere else with it.

Merlin, if we have to tell Frank again that Neville can't be inducted to the Order ... I don't know how he'll take it. Not well, and I can't blame him. But if the boy's hiding something ....

I guess we'll have to ask if he's said anything that Alice and Frank haven't told the rest of us.

Right. Floo. Another night of ignoring the (constant) snide remarks out of the malevolent minger.
alt_sirius: (Serious)
To be honest, it's not MLE and the Council that worry me.

It's all those members of the Jr Aux who were at the Burrow.

Did you hear them all greet Pomona, Kingsley? Sounded like a primary school class.

I smelled Justin soon as he arrived; tried to get out of sight in a hurry but I can't be sure whether or not he saw me. The problem was that every time I moved away from him, I came near to being spotted by Pansy Parkinson.

And Kingsley, was it me or was Mac staring at the young woman who came with Justin, the one carrying the hamper? Poor girl looked like she hadn't an idea how best to make herself useful. I think she wound up in the kitchen most of the afternoon. Maybe we ought to ask what was so fascinating? Don't know if he'll take that as teasing about his tastes or what.

Alice, you and Frank had gone but you ought to know that Neville and Evelyn both came by Floo, mid-afternoon or so. Then all of them - Pansy, Justin, Hydra, Ron, Sally-Anne, your two - went up to Fred and George's room. Can't be good, whatever that means (though the twins were seen going up and down the stairs from time to time. Nicked a platter of sandwiches on their way back up, too).

Mordred, it's nearly time to go. Look, I know we said we'd let things alone and they can figure it out in their own time but .... I just think that time is coming much sooner than any of us planned.
alt_sirius: (Sad)
Listen, everyone: I know we're reeling over Emmeline. But we're not done with what we mean to do today.

Frank, Kingsley, Moody - we were completely successful. Dora and Allie were everywhere, it seemed like - every time we looked round they were somewhere else, just where they needed to be.

Fu's trick worked perfectly (James would have been impressed!) and we liberated three stock cars full of grain, root vegetables, wool and medicinal supplies, Poppy - all sorts.

We're getting ready to hit Manchester now. Everyone's fine on our end.

The rest of you, keep your wits. It sounds extremely dangerous out there and you don't need to compound one loss with more errors. You know what to do; you've done it countless times.

And all of you: Swift Flight. Stay safe. Come home.
alt_sirius: (BedroomEyes)
All right, you two.

I've had another letter from Harry. I want to make sure the bits about women are on-target. You're the two who immediately come to mind to make sure I give him advice that shan't result in a hexing.

So, you should both know he's very concerned about the prophecy and that killing Voldemort (if he even can do) will instantaneously turn him into some soul-sucking Dementor (which is rubbish, of course, and I'm telling him so).

But beyond that, he's quite concerned that any girl he asks will feel as if she has to acquiesce to him because of his powerful connections.

There's one girl he mentions in particular. I can't tell from what he says if he's actually interested in her but I think I recall that she's the one he asked to the Yule Ball last year. She's apparently just broken up with the Head Boy (so right away, not necessarily a great time to catch her, if she's on the rebound) and Harry says, '[Cedric's] been under lots of pressure because of being Head Boy and other things, and he told her so, and she got angry and split up with him because of it. How would I ever know that they liked me because of me, and not because of .... how important I’m supposed to be.'

Right. Here's what I plan to tell him:

There are ways you can tell if a girl likes you for you and not just your family or your reputation or your Gringotts account. But mostly they have to do with getting to know her and letting her get to know you. In this case, if she couldn't handle dating a boy who has the normal sorts of pressures, Head Boy and so on, I don't think she'd necessarily give you the sort of support you need. But perhaps you're not interested in talking to her, just snogging her.

Nothing wrong with that, so long as that's all she's interested in, too.

As far as figuring out if you're taking advantage - well, again, I think it's all in how you read the signals she gives you. If she smiles back or if you get the feeling she'd rather be somewhere else. I can't imagine you'd go on spending time with someone who tells you one thing while her attitude is saying something different. So, watch for the signs that she's bored or unhappy. Try a double-date if you think that would help take the pressure off, or go with her and a group of friends so you'll feel more comfortable. (Don't ask when she's with a group, mind. Get her alone so she can say no if that's what she wants to say - and tell her that it's okay if she does, no hard feelings.) But even if a girl accepts on the basis of who she thinks you are, that's all right. It means she's getting something she's looking for, too, doesn't it? And I think you'll be able to tell, sooner or later, if that's all there is or if there might be something more meaningful in your, er, relationship.

He's not liable to get himself slapped or jinxed, following that, is he?

(Oh, and Alice, he asked about Dudley and whether there's a chance he'll reply. All right if I tell him that Duds is working on a response? I want to warn him to be kind since writing is not something that comes easily to his cousin.)

Order Only

alt_sirius: (achy)
Frank, tell Neville and Evelyn to be a bit ginger with Allie this morning. She's okay but probably a little, er, slow-moving.

She's on her way back; I made her stay at Grimmauld for fear she'd splinch if she tried returning last night.

We talked, most of the night. Well, I let her talk. Seems like she needed a good crying out.

So I'm just reading through everyone's conversations now but it's rather remarkable how Alice and I covered most of the angles people have discussed.

Except the one about letting Hermione and Terry tell their friends a couple of choice pieces of information. (And I agree with Dora, Moony: You're brilliant.)

But I've been thinking about it, off and on, ever since they all started asking questions and the letters came from more than one or two people and so on. Eventually this lot are likely to all ask for induction into the Order.

And I agree with Poppy that we can't allow them to continue forcing our hands.

In all honesty, I'm more concerned with what happens if they don't come to us about joining. Fred, George, you said before that you didn't think everyone on your lock would be good to add to the Order and not just because of their ages. The thing is, unless we're sure of their intentions, it's an unconscionable risk even to confirm their suspicions about the links they've already made.

However, all that having been said, trust has to start somewhere. I think we might let Hermione and Terry tell them the facts in Moony's proposal but also tell them that we have a message: Good show, you're all very clever, keep sticking together and helping each other, yes, we'll consider new recruits but no, not until you're of age.

That might stave off the uncomfortable conversations for a while, at least.

I also think it's high time we found something to do that would actually move things along a bit. I know we're making progress but it's a bit too slow and incremental for me. At our current rate of smuggling it's going to be another ten years before we have enough of them distributed.
alt_sirius: (intense)
Everything all right?

We figure it can't be an alarm or you'd have written to everyone.

Still, can't blame a chap for worrying wondering.
alt_sirius: (Lounging)
Well.

Albus, you wanted a meeting with us all after the students had left. And Frank's now finished the border run.

So if we want a place to meet, Grimmauld's available. Remus and Dora will tell Ellie that they're closing the shop Friday night so that we can all be there. Allie, I think it's 'Matilda's' anniversary and so Junius and Dora have offered to bring Bea and watch your two at yours while you and the husband have a romantic night's holiday.

Don't think Frank will mind. Oh, but if you come a bit earlier in the afternoon, we could go round and try Puneet's parents again, maybe.

What do you all say?
