Right.

How close are we to restoring portkeys? Could we create a number of them to get into Buckingham?

Or perhaps Montague or Clearwater have ideas about how to get in. They're with us now, might as well use the advantage.

Remus and I think if we can take about 20 able wands with us, and wait until the full moon, we could mount an assault directly on their headquarters and take the fight to them.

This festival thingy in New London this weekend - they'll all be distracted by that, correct? So we get in, get to Bellatrix, and end this whole sorry business.
alt_sirius: (plotting)
Rachel, what's the likelihood that your source in the Death Eaters could give you warning the next time they decide to impersonate us?

Ginny Weasley's got additional confirmation that those attacks could be the key to winning over anyone who's still on the fence about whether or not we're the good guys.
alt_sirius: (Action)
Alarms just went up here in Maidstone. Their warehouse is on fire.

We'll put the fire out but Pansy, Jeremy, they'll be short on whatever we can't salvage.
alt_sirius: (close-up)
I think we're about ready to go. Radhika and Ellen are going to take photographs to establish that Draco and I are working with the good people of Brighton to rebuild their boardwalk.

Merlin, what a massive annoyance, but I admit I'm looking forward, in some ways, to doing a little work with my hands.

Alice, I left something for you in the drawer of your desk. Open only when you're alone. Circe knows I needed one after John's service, and Remus mentioned you were feeling particularly tense, too.

Anyway.

We'll be back by dark, I expect.
alt_sirius: (Serious)
There's been a story today going round the Protectorate that Draco and I killed a family who declined an offer to come work for the government of Albion.

Obviously, it's not true.

I don't want to rebut it directly, of course - I think that would be the wrong response - but if there are other ways to deflect what they're claiming and turn it back against them, we could use some more positive reports. Lee, what about the ladies and gents of the press we have with us now? It's high time we put our own propaganda machine to work.
alt_sirius: (Lemme'Splain)
I didn't want to disturb yesterday when you had your (much deserved) day off, but, have you heard from Nick and John? They said something about a quick jaunt back to the Ministry for - a missing box of files? I know we tried to retrieve as much as possible as quickly as possible. They insisted it was essential, though, to the redistribution project, and that they'd be quick and careful getting in and out.

I've been asking round, quietly, and no one seems to have seen them since yesterday lunchtime. Twenty-four hours is not what I'd call quick.

You haven't heard that they hit trouble and had to lie low, have you?
alt_sirius: (Motorcycle)
Busy today?

I'm going down to Dumfries to help with a situation in the camps - as it's a nice day (and I've got to be back tonight for the full moon), I thought I'd take the bike.

Care to join? Or come on your own broom. Could use an Auror in case things get ugly.
alt_sirius: (Default)
Bill,

That parchment and everything for the Goblins - Draco's coming up to the Great Hall. I said you'd meet him. I hope you don't mind. I'll come down, too, if you like.

He'll sign whatever we need, just please if we can minimise what he has to do, that's for the best. I mentioned the trust. If he can sign the parchments for that at the same time, so much the better.

I didn't tell him you might need a print or a drop of his blood but he'll do whatever we need to do to get this over and done.

Order Only

To the one who now calls himself Harry Potter:

You belong to me, and always have. This has always been your purpose. This has always been your destiny. Accept it - embrace it.

Come to me and you need never know pain or fear again. Come to me willingly, and you can end this pointless conflict now and forever. Come to me before midnight in two days' time, and no one else need die because of your cowardice. Submit to my will, and understand. It's time, Harry.

Your schoolmates' lives depend on you obeying my command.

Bugger. Annoying, that.

Draco, Harry and Hermione have been reading their Galleons. The others are locked in their common rooms and there seems to be more Enforcers converging on the school.

MEETING AT GRIMMAULD, as soon as possible.
alt_sirius: (JC Superstar)
We have some news.

I should explain that last summer, Remus and I put out the word to some of our contacts that we wanted to find out what was to be done with Minerva's things. You may remember that her house and all its contents were placed at the disposal of the Ministry, so while those of you at school could go through her quarters, we couldn't retrieve anything from her London home. Apparently it was something of a conundrum for the Ministry as well, as they couldn't decide whether she should be branded traitor and all her assets retained for the state, or whether her will should be executed, or what. According to our informant, there was also a scuffle because her solicitor, Fox-Burton, wanted to rid himself of the responsibility when he thought it might get out that he'd represented a high-level member of the Order of the Phoenix.

Anyway, the sum of all this is that it's taken nine months, but it's finally been determined that her things will be sent to a public auction. It's during the Hogwarts Easter holidays, so students ought to be able to go, if we have to go that route. Our contact suggested breaking in to remove anything we might want. But Harry, I thought perhaps you might try your hand with the auction house and see if you could get yourself a private viewing of the contents of the estate before the public auction, on the excuse that there may be items you want to purchase outright without having to compete. I bet they'd rush to accommodate you.

I mean to say, if we had to, we could all go in disguises and bid on items until we get anything we need but I can think of far better uses for our resources. And if we did have to break in, it would only signal to the Ministry that there were items of note. Also, I wouldn't put it past them to have put tracing charms on the items until they're legally purchased (and even then, I expect we'll want to give everything a thorough once-over, just in case!).

The owl we received said that the auction will be in the Prophet soon, but I doubt very much anyone would question you learning about it before any official announcement, Harry.

With any luck, we'll find everything of hers that we're looking for--including that blasted plate--and we can ask Umbridge directly where she hid the diadem.
alt_sirius: (Shocked)
Alice,

There's an article in this morning's paper you ought to know about.

Ministry sources report that late last week, the Aurors executed a large-scale operation against the Crimson Company. Arrests are said to have been made at several locations, leading to the complete dismantling of this shadowy opposition group.

It goes on to describe the Crimson Company and - well, I have to say, it's hard to imagine anything like this making an appearance in the Prophet a year ago. Here, I'll copy out the important parts:

Readers will remember that the Crimson Company have claimed responsibility for a series of 'Robin Hood' kindnesses that left sacks of galleons on the doorsteps of needy families, particularly those facing eviction or harassment from bill collectors or threats from rogue 'security officers'. Where the Crimson Company obtained that largess has been a question on the minds of many, but it has not seemed until now to have been a priority for Magical Law Enforcement.

Magical Law Enforcement declined to comment on the details of an investigation in progress, but issued this statement: 'The Crimson Company are a band of troublemakers who have abducted and murdered Ministry personnel, who have targeted state institutions, and who, through vandalism and fraud, have sought to undermine many of the successful enterprises on which our country's commercial success and financial security rest. The Crimson Company's reign of terror has now been brought to an end.'

As if that weren't critical enough, it concludes:

So far as The Prophet can learn, there have been no convictions to date against anyone affiliated with the Crimson Company for any act that would rise to the level of disturbing the peace.

Independent information about the Crimsons is scarce, difficult to confirm, and always contested by Ministry officials, but the public have a right to know what is being done in their name, to whom, and why.

We can discuss the impartiality of the Prophet later; presently I'm more worried about our own security.

Have you heard from Sam Fawcett? He was supposed to be our contact within the Company, wasn't he?

We're on alert here, in case he was taken. Everyone else might want to pay close attention today, if MLE should come calling.
alt_sirius: (Short Hair)
Hermione has requested a small get-together tomorrow at ours to celebrate and remember Minerva.

Actually, this invitation is open to everyone, but it's as good a reason as any to test this newfound PM system.

So please extend it to any of the 'Juniors' who presumably can't see this. Three o'clock.
alt_sirius: (Yeesh)
Alice, whomever's flying round Peterhead, send them west.

There's definitely something building up along this ley line.

At least, I don't think it's just the wind. Merlin. My head's buzzing.

I'm going up again but lower this time, see if I can see anything on the ground. Also not as far to fall Don't worry; I'm watching out for MLE.

Dora, Charlie, you two all right? I'll be looking for relatively secluded spot where you can conduct your mission.
alt_sirius: (Leaning)
Hey, kiddo,

How's it going, with you and Hydra? I know I've been a bit more focused on Justin at present but don't forget I'm here for you, too. No matter what the circumstances it's not easy, breaking up, and just because you're not in this competition, it doesn't mean you're not feeling the pressure as well.

Don't think I didn't notice you were pretty quiet at the meeting. And before it. And after.

If you ever want to talk, you've only to say.
alt_sirius: (JC Superstar)
Right, so. What, if anything, did we know about these Pandora's Box people MLE massacred yesterday?

If I'm not mistaken that's the remains of a printing press in one of the photographs. Does anyone in our network know what they printed? Or does MLE hope that people will conclude these are the people who printed our copies of Pure Victory?
alt_sirius: (smoking)
Merlin, what a day.

Justin's asleep. At least, he was going to get ready to sleep, poor sod. The double shot of whiskey he drank while we were talking will probably help, I bet.

I don't blame him. I'm exhausted just from that conversation and I haven't had anything like the fortnight he's had. But when you add our Evening with the Weasleys on top of the rest .... Firewhiskey doesn't even begin to cut it. Still, it gives me some thoughts about the next few radio addresses.

Hope Charlie and Dora are having fun, anyway.

Has the rain stopped? Only it'd be nice if you could close up early tonight.
alt_sirius: (Serious)
You know, this might be the first time I wish I had the ability to send a bona fide Howler.

I hope you're both quite happy with yourselves. Merlin, HOW could you be so foolish? For what? A few months of playing house?

I thought you both had better sense. You'd already managed something I thought almost impossible. You had Rodolphus Lestrange on your side, more or less. Somehow you've managed to charm or wheedle everyone who's found out about your relationship to come down in support, well, it was only a matter of time before you encountered someone who didn't find the two of you so affecting and enchanting.

Justin, do you have any idea what your mother would do to me if you'd got yourself killed?

And then to get caught and know that there was a good chance Horace was blowing the whistle, and not to tell me about it? Not to tell Alice? You do realise how idiotic that was. Yes, we'd have been cross but at least we might have been able to intercede in some way. And think of the position you put everyone else in, if you can't be bothered to worry about your own arses.

I don't know what you were thinking. Either of you.

Above all, I can't believe you'd give Bellatrix any reason to force her power over you - and that's what you've done, you know. You served up your relationship on a platter for her to cut into pieces. You can't afford another mistake and you certainly can't allow yourselves to lose control like that again.

I know you both well enough to expect you're well aware of how massively you've cocked things up. How you've damaged not only your chances to marry properly, if that's what you insist you want, but also your chances to do anything else you'd hoped for the Order, the trust we've placed in you, the responsibility, and in all honesty, the ability to be effective after this setback.

And I know you're the ones who have to live with the consequences of your thoughtless actions. Believe me, I know all about that. Truly, I'm sorry that you'll likely regret this week for a long time to come.

That doesn't alter the fact that this isn't - can't be - a game. You knew what you were doing was a potential risk but you did it anyway. We want you to be willing to undertake risk, but for worthwhile things, not self-indulgence.

Right, then.

Morgana help me for saying this, but part of me still wants to offer you the option to elope and come live at Grimmauld. But you both have to think what you'd be giving up to do it. I recommend against it, at least until you've finished school. Meanwhile ... well, it's not that we don't want you to be happy, but it can't be at the expense of everything we've built. That's too high a price.
alt_sirius: (Leaning)
It was such a wretched evening tonight that we shut up the garden hours ahead of our normal close. But of the people who were there, two were ones we'd been thinking might make good recruits: Tim Wang and Edna Parsons. Er, not that they were together mind.

Mrs Parsons lives in a building nearby - you might recall she's the one whose landlord Beth confirmed is already a member of the Muggle Underground Railroad, so we're reasonably confident that unless she's completely idiotic, she won't have any issues from him, at any rate. Not sure about her neighbours - though she's brought the lady in the next flat here at least once.

Wang's an interesting bloke. I once overheard Ellie asking him if there wasn't anything she could get for him - he doesn't touch a drop of beer. He smiled and said he was just fine with his gillywater; he just likes the company. Ellie asked, 'Any particular company?' and he said that he quite fancies how relaxed we keep things, how no one puts on any airs. Then there was a time when Mrs Spindleton was clucking over him and drew him out a bit. I listened on that conversation, too. Turns out, his wife was one of the casualties in the World Cup bombing.

The others we think worth approaching:
  • Enid Dribb - she looked after Bea a time or two before Ellie came to stay with us

  • Craig Cantrell - he's the young lad who works for the Parritts and he's quite sweet on our Ellie

  • Rebecca Kestenbaum

  • Avanti Sharma - Both of them were a few years ahead of Dora, but I don't think they're mates with each other or anything. I've barely seen them have a conversation, actually

  • Gladys Malone - Ellie said she was in at Valentine's, still rather bitter about her husband leaving her when he knew perfectly well she was a halfblood

  • Rick Sacher - I think Rick is short for Frederick, isn't it, Dora, and not Richard. He was telling another patron a few months ago that his parents emigrated here from Austria back when Grindelwald was making things uncomfortable there. Had loads of stories about their escape, back in the day

We're not expecting that every one of them will accept, of course, or that we want every one of them right away. Rick, Rebecca, and Avanti are the best suited for active roles, I think, while Tim, Enid, Edna and Gladys would likely be more comfortable in support positions. Craig's as enthusiastic as any young man at 16 or 17, but we'd need to get him a wand and some training before he could make an effective combatant, certainly. He might do for a messenger if we need one, as the family he works for send him out on errands quite a bit.

It's a Hogsmeade weekend coming up, isn't it?

I hope so, because we've got about 50 copies of the original Pure Victory for you lot to start giving out.

We've been stockpiling them at Grimmauld. Miss Parkinson, if you're still able to ask Hitty to deliver them, that would probably be the least conspicuous method. Otherwise, someone will have to meet us in the cave outside the village this Saturday.

And it ought to be this Saturday, since we heard on the wireless that the replacement's coming out very soon. And Hogsmeade might be the best venue to give them out, if it comes to that.

Quickly, anyone who's available: What do we know about loyalty compulsions?

I've stupefied Strangeweale. He was supposed to be visiting his father but it turns out he's safeguarded his home by keeping Timothy under some sort of compulsion that makes him unnaturally loyal whenever his 'master's' safety is threatened. (It's almost admirable how effective it was: he went from complaining about Strangeweale to the friendly hound, to hounding the dangerous fugitive while setting off a notification spell on his wrist, in about a second and a half.)

I had to stun him. Fortunately it wasn't much of a fight. But by then, Strangeweale had come through the Floo. Of course, Timothy was no longer awake to warn the bastard that I was standing ready to stun him.

So, anyway. I've got an unconscious Strangeweale here to be interrogated when we like. But meanwhile we've got to do something to reverse what he's done to Timothy. I don't dare let him wake up, either, until we've got an idea how to keep him from fighting us all the way.
